Problem displaying fields

I have set up and installed the plugin, and created a template in my themes directory. My problem is that with the default, and with my new template, the only field that is showing is the title with a link to the post. When I look at the template, i see date, author, etc. should be displaying, but they aren't. I know that the template is working because I just appended the string with some random text and it showed up. so for some reason, only the title is showing and not the rest. Any thoughts?
